CHARACTER INFO
NAME: Uchiha SasukeSERIES: Naruto: Shippuuden
CANON POINT: Sasuke Shinden: Book of Sunrise (anime episode 488)
AGE: 19
CHARACTER SUMMARY:
At first blush, Sasuke is reserved, terse, and serious. He takes a no-nonsense approach to both long-term goals and daily tasks, usually completing them in ways he finds most efficient and — when it comes to his more important ambitions — with an unyielding focus. While this intensity is often propped up as an ideal for shinobi, Sasuke did not grow into it naturally. As a child he was far more expressive and optimistic, with a determined if shy personality. During this time he developed the dual inferiority and superiority complex that he’d carry into adulthood; his father’s high expectations and withholding nature caused him to develop a strong need to succeed alongside the assumption that he should. This was further complicated when at age eight his clansmen — including his parents — were slaughtered by his elder brother Itachi who left him with an order to acquire even more strength and avenge their loss against him. Socially this event put Sasuke into a state of arrested development. He isolated himself from his peers because he believed that they were incapable of understanding his new burdens, became far more reserved and quiet, began to manifest new anger issues, and started living entirely on his own. As much as he hated this loneliness it allotted him more time to train and with fewer distractions, causing him to also focus less and less on his own happiness. This idea of duty and goals over self (even when those goals were potentially selfishly motivated) is one that sticks with him through to the end of the series itself.
Because Sasuke is such a loner he struggles with teamwork and is in fact only shown to succeed at it whenever it isn’t conflicting with his goals. When he is actually working in a team he naturally volunteers himself for a leadership position and adopts it with or without consent from his teammates. He’s uncompromising and stubborn with his decisions, a personality trait which is even more apparent after the time skip (from age thirteen at the end of Naruto to sixteen at the beginning of Naruto: Shippuuden) due to an extended period away from any of his positive bonds in Konoha. This also shows in his defiance to authority. Again, as with teamwork, should someone give him an order that falls in line with his own wants or ambitions, Sasuke is willing to go along with it. If not, his pride and lack of concern for others’ opinion of him leads to him being all too ready to refuse… sometimes violently (as in the case of him literally backstabbing multiple mentors and teammates). Despite his prickly demeanor Sasuke does possess a genuine respect for life, avoiding killing when possible but not hesitating when he feels it’s unavoidable. Which leads to another major part of Sasuke’s personality: his extreme emotions. While again he’s stoic on the outside, this is a carefully maintained exterior. Sasuke is extremely emotional and has a few triggers (mostly family-related) capable of setting off his considerable anger. When this happens throughout the series his personal morality takes a backseat to his violent tendencies. That said, this rage is canonically confirmed to be the result of an even stronger capability to love; the bonds Sasuke forms are very important to him and experiencing any loss of them affects him both powerfully and negatively.
POWERS: (Note: I'm sorry for how long this is and fully understand if more nerfs are required that I might've missed; he is a mess.)
Taijutsu: Sasuke is highly trained in hand-to-hand combat and is capable of superhuman strength in his strikes, punching through rock and knocking opponents flying back many meters. He is also incredibly fast, with speed that in short bursts is regularly confused with teleportation in the manga.
Limitations: This would be reduced to above average but still within game levels. All fights would also involve thread partner communication ahead of time!
Genjutsu: Sasuke has the ability to cast powerful illusions that affect all five senses and cause a variety of effects. These include rendering the target unconscious, extracting information, and even controlling the target if they are weak-willed enough.
Limitations: All illusions would be discussed between players ahead of time, particularly control of targets. Sasuke's ability to do this (controlling in particular) would be greatly reduced and player characters would by and large be able to break out of it quickly or have it not affect them at all.
Basic ninjutsu/chakra control: Henge no jutsu/Transformation: allows the user to disguise him or herself as another person or object.
Limitations: Size would be limited per power caps.
Bunshin no jutsu/Cloning: the user forms one or more clones of him or herself.
Limitations: Only one clone could be maintained at a time, and would be a greater drain on his stamina.
Kawarimi no jutsu/Substitution: the user swaps their body with another object prior to an attack in order to escape it unharmed.
Kuchiyose no jutsu/Summoning: the user draws blood from him or herself in order to summon a member of a species of animal with which they have a contract; Sasuke possesses a contract with both snakes and hawks.
Limitations: Either Sasuke would only be able to summon regular, normal-sized and average hawks and snakes with no particular motivation to listen to anything he wants (as opposed to the kinds in Naruto which talk, are gigantic, and are often also somehow ninja), or if this impacted any plot events I'd be happy for it to be nerfed entirely!
Shinobi also have the ability to manipulate their chakra flow to allow them several other boons. These include affixing themselves to objects, which allows them to climb up walls, hang from ceilings, or even walk on water, and using chakra in bursts of energy to enhance their jumps.
Elemental ninjutsu: Sasuke can use both lightning and fire element attacks, from as small as a spark and an ember up to manipulating a lightning storm and creating fire balls several times his size.
Limitations: His powers in this arena would be diminished significantly; no lightning storms allowed here. They would be scaled to suit the game, with fireballs smaller than a human and electrical attacks suited for one on one battle remaining, but the others being nerfed.
Doujutsu: Sasuke possesses the sharingan, a special set of eyes with a number of unique abilities. First, it has the ability to see chakra, or energy. This enables him to see if something is real or an illusion, to suss out items imbued with energy, or roughly gauge a person’s strength if they use magical, spiritual, or energy-based powers.
Second, the sharingan offers enhanced visual perception. Not only is his eyesight significantly sharpened, but he can read slight muscle twitches in his opponent and respond at supernatural speed, almost as if predicting their movements.
Third, the sharingan has the ability to copy any physical movement that it sees. This can be used for something as mundane as copying a person’s handwriting style to something as serious as learning new fighting techniques at incredible speed.
Mangekyou Sharingan: This more advanced form of the sharingan that Sasuke possesses has two main abilities. First is Amaterasu, a black, endlessly burning flame which ignites anywhere that Sasuke chooses within his line of sight and cannot be put out using any normal means. He is also uniquely able control the flames, both manipulating their shape and extinguishing them at will.
Limitations: My gut says this whole skill deserves a complete nerf/removal as it's pretty cheap and unfun by definition.
The second ability is Susanoo, a large skeletal warrior comprised of chakra which Sasuke can summon in whole or in part. While he often uses this ability to encompass himself like a shield (by summoning just the ribcage), Susanoo is also armed with a sword and bow.
Limitations: Size would be limited per power caps, meaning Susanoo could only be utilized in partial summons. In addition, this would place a significant added strain on Sasuke's stamina.
Rinnegan: The final doujutsu (eye technique) Sasuke has access to is the rinnegan. The main set of abilities attributable to the rinnegan are known collectively as the Six Paths Technique and they are as follows:
Limitation: Sasuke shows no signs of knowing how to properly use this ability at his canon point and it has the potential to negatively impact the game setting, as such I believe this should be nerfed completely.
Limitation: Sasuke shows no signs of knowing how to properly use this ability at his canon point and it has the potential to negatively impact the game setting, as such I believe this should be nerfed completely.
Limitation: Removed entirely due to these animals only existing in his world, which would constitute inter-dimensional overlap.
Limitation: This would be limited to elemental or energy attacks in particular and never be able to fully regenerate Sasuke's stamina or own chakra.
Limitation: Please just no.
Furthermore, anyone who's mastered the rinnegan can create and use chakra receivers which allow them to transfer their energy to anyone -- or anything -- with one of the receivers embedded.
Finally, Sasuke's rinnegan also allows him to teleport by exchanging his place with that of another object, and to open portals to other dimensions.
Limitation: His teleportation is only active within his line of sight and therefore isn't limited, but the portals to dimensions certainly is! This would be removed entirely.
GAME INFO
ASPECTS:Harbinger: the Harbinger represents one set of Sasuke's priorities. He has extremely high expectations for himself, rarely if ever taking the time to slow down and rest and equally neglecting to forgive himself for his failings. He is an incredibly hard worker in pursuit of his goals, often to the detriment of every other thing in his life.
Exalt: the Exalt represents Sasuke's other side. He is an island purely because he loathes the idea of isolation so strongly. He fights for ideals and ghosts because he loves others so much, completely upending any kind of life he might've had out of sheer devotion to his slaughtered family. Later, when he has the chance to return to his still living loved ones, he chooses to exile himself in order to build a better world for those individuals. His bonds rule him.
ANTICIPATED FACTION:
Meridian. Sasuke’s character arc sees him trying and failing repeatedly to forge healthy normal bonds with those around him, and in addition maintaining those bonds within the framework of his incredibly damaged world. Where he’s landed after years of conflict and suffering is on a desire to change that world for the better in order to prevent circumstances that led to the creation of people like himself. His commitment to this is strong enough that he would absolutely align himself with Meridian and do everything in his power to restore his world. That said, he is weak to his bonds and would struggle if offered the shards of those closest to him (Naruto in particular). Drama awaits.
SUITABILITY:
Sasuke is a hyper-motivated individual in anything that he chooses to do. At his canon point he is interested in learning as much as possible about his own world in order to improve it – he would absolutely impose this same viewpoint upon his new environment. He will want to learn as much about the failings of the worlds around him to apply those lessons to his own, which he will also fight tirelessly to restore. He’ll be a staunch supporter of Meridian, as well as a local creepy weirdo. Seriously, he's incredibly weird and awkward.
